If you’re a DB Section member, this is new for you!

If you haven’t already got one, you can now register for your online account so that, in future, you can keep track of your DB benefits online. You’ll need your membership number and National Insurance number to get started, which you can find on any old statements or correspondence.

Once registered, you can:

  • Complete your Nomination form so we know who you’d like to receive your benefits if you die. You can also submit a new Nomination form if you’d like to update your existing nominees.
  • Update your address and contact details so we can stay in touch with you.
  • Change your password.

In future, more content and functionality will be added to this section so that you can manage your pension account online.

History and background of the DB Sections

The DHL businesses have changed over the years and historically there were several DHL UK pension plans.

The most significant change was in 2009, when the historical pension plans were merged into the largest scheme at the time – the Exel Retirement Plan – which was then renamed the DHL Group Retirement Plan. The main reason behind this merger was to ensure that all UK DHL pension plans were managed under one single trust.

Importantly at that time, the historic plans that were defined benefit arrangements were able to keep their assets and liabilities separately identifiable on becoming different sections of the DHL Group Retirement Plan.

The sections are as follows: Exel, Ocean, Tibbett & Britten, AEI, Express and Global Forwarding.

In 2020 the NHS Section was merged into the Exel Section.

There are now six Defined Benefit (DB) Sections and one Defined Contribution (DC) Section in the Plan.

Which Section are you in?

Each DB Section has different benefits and rules. Log in to your pension account to check which Section you’re in and the benefits you are entitled to. Depending on your employment history, you may also have benefits in the DC Section.

The Exel section was formerly the largest DHL Scheme in operation and known as the Exel Retirement Plan. The Stationery Office Section also merged into this section in 2018. The Exel section of the Plan has a number of benefit schedules including:
